  Thallus crustose, continuous, grey-brown to olive-brown, to 2 cm wide, 0.5–1.0 mm thick, bullate or papillate, lacking isidia and soredia. Prothallus not apparent. Apothecia common, scattered to crowded, sessile, ±constricted at the base, 0.8–2.8 mm wide; disc plane, becoming ±undulate, round, glossy black, epruinose; thalline exciple prominent, very thick, crenulate to denticulate, rarely smooth; proper exciple colourless, 110–150 µm thick. Epihymenium dark violet-brown. Hymenium violet to violet-brown, 50–60 µm thick. Hypothecium brown to yellow-brown, 100–150 µm thick Ascospores simple, ellipsoidal, thick-walled, 13–15 × 6–8 µm. Pycnidia not seen.
CHEMISTRY: Cortex K+ yellow, C–, KC–, P– or P+ pale yellow; medulla K–, C–, KC–, P–, UV+ blue-white; containing atranorin (minor), pannaric acid 6-methyl ester (major), pannaric acid (minor), fumarprotocetraric acid (trace).
     
  This very rare, endemic, corticolous species is known only from the type specimen which was collected at an unknown locality in eastern Qld.
